THE AMAZING GRANULAR GLASS WORKS SHOWCASE AT THE 1932–1942 MURANO GLASS AND THE VENICE BIENNALE EXHIBITION
Even in August, don’t miss the chance to visit the exhibition 1932–1942 Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale, curated by Marino Barovier, and to explore the captivating section dedicated to the granular glass works, so called for their composition from a variety of different glass types. One standout among these is the striking black glass, created by heat-fusing small square murrine with four dots of white opal. But during the cooling process, something remarkable happens: the opal cools more rapidly, causing it to protrude, while the black glass cools more slowly and contracts, allowing the white dots to emerge from the surface.
The result? A stunning, tactile effect that could not be achieved by any other technique.
LE STANZE DEL VETRO is open every day from 10am to 7pm, closed on Wednesday. Free entrance.
