Edvin Öhrstrom for Orrefors. "Ariel-vase Girl and the dove".

  • This is an Orrefors vase, designed by Edvin Ohrstrom, using the ariel technique.
  • The vase measures 30 cm tall and 13 cm wide, and is known by collectors as the "Girl and Dove" or "Flickan och Duvan" (in Swedish) design.
  • This was one of Ohrstrom's classic motifs, originally introduced in the late 1930s. The color scheme is a blue and amber, cased in clear.
  • It is signed (incised) on the base "Orrefors, Ariel 428K, Edvin Ohrstrom." The "428K" portion of the signature dates the vase's production to 1961 (earlier and more desirable than most of the ariels seen on auctions).
  • This is also one of the largest examples that I have seen. The vase is thick-walled and very heavy. It is in outstanding condition, with no chips, flea-bites, cracks, repairs, or internal cloudiness.
  • It seems to be virtually free of the typical random, superficial scratching characteristic of vintage glass.
