  • Vaso Squarcio vases by Giampaolo Seguso distinguished by having both color schemes of this design, one intended, one by circumstance. Of the important Italian glass makers today Venini, Barovier and Seguso stand out.
  • Designed by Giampaolo Seguso, 2nd son of Archimede Seguso and founder of Seguso Viro.
  • In 1993 Giampaolo Seguso created his L’Incalmo series, 33 designs executed in the difficult Incalmo technique with each design limited to only 99 examples. Vaso Squarcio is Design No. 33 from the series (see p. 124 of the Catalogue Raisonne: La Galleria Dei 99 L’Incalmo by Rosa Barovier Mentasti). Each is signed and numbered.
  • During execution a unique and unexpected phenomena occurred due to meta-stability of the glass mixture. Subtle environmental variations during execution of these vases caused a major color variant. Though the entire production was limited to only 99 examples a few examples experienced an unexpected effect producing a totally different color in the finished product. This design is normally seen in red; the unexpected variation provided green.
  • That the green vase was part of the original production is documented by the signed and numbered watercolor and personal communication identifying this vase as No. 59 of the 99 produced.
  • Accompanying these vases are original watercolors … signed and numbered by Giampaolo Seguso for the specific execution of this vase as well as a Certificates of Authenticity.
